About the company
Originating in Calgary with Chris and Joie at the helm, DD Studios collaborated with Edmonton’s DomDeco led by Jay. Today, these two forces have formally united, erasing any previous distinctions. Previously managed as separate entities, we now proudly announce our official merger. A heartfelt expression of gratitude goes out to all who have been part of our journey in recent years, while a warm welcome is extended to those who are just discovering us.
Designer notes
DD Studios stocked some beautiful, high-end midcentury furniture, my goal was to design a brand that replicated their quality, timeless furniture.
Logo design – Since I wanted to replicate their furniture in a logo, what better way to do it, than just do exactly that! Like all designs, I started my sketches with shapes. I thought the silhouette of the letter D was a great shape for the design, this also help emphasize the letter D as it is noted twice in the name. I had puzzled the letter D’s multiple times in different variations trying to create a piece of midcentury furniture. After many attempts for a design that felt appealing to me, I filtered it down to the eggshell chair! The colours I chose were based off of 50’s pastel colours inspired by the American west.

Videography – For the videography, DD Studios Loft owners requested I create visual content for their advertisements for Facebook and Instagram. Creating the video, my aim was to follow the flow of the furniture using a gimbal and slider. I added motion graphics to communicate the name of the furniture and the DD Studios name. The “wiggle” effect to the text helped highlight the text and give it character. Finally I finished off with the logo motion graphic in the end of the video.
Business Cards – The business cards I felt that it needed to be handed out a different way. Creatively I decided to make the business card also a price tag they can easily write on. So when customers purchase a piece of furniture they also receive the business card. This also helps with ordering and costs; as when you order in bulk the cost is inexpensive.
Graphic Prints – After successfully completing various projects for DD Studios, they believed in my skills as a graphic designer and saw my style. They requested a collaboration on some graphic prints, I was truly grateful for the opportunity. My design was inspired by the many cultures within Calgary and the similarities we have, one being foods. Across many cultures we have a common shape we share, the half circle. It represents the empanada to the Spanish to even the dumplings many Asian countries. I felt that this design was universal to any customer!
Vinyl install – I help plan, cut and implement vinyl graphics throughout DD Studios Loft store. I strategically placed the hours, logo and text in the showroom in coordination with their traffic flows. We went with a gloss white on the windows as it wasn’t to contrasty that it took away from the furniture while still being legible.
